Summer = ice cream

Ok – FINE….

Summer, fall, winter and spring = ice cream, to me anyway.

Today is the first day of summer. And what better way to enjoy the longest day of the year than a big batch of homemade vanilla ice cream. No store bought brand can even compare.

This is the recipe I have been using since Pook and I got married. I got it from a family friend. She noticed we didn’t have an ice cream maker on our wedding registry. She thought it was simply a must have (and really, how could I miss putting this item on our registry?? I’m glad she saved me.) And included her favorite vanilla recipe inside. It’s not eggy/custard tasting at all. It’s creamy vanilla heaven. I actually lost her recipe card…hence, the google search for it. But after a few phone calls, I got the recipe back.

4 eggs
1 cup sugar
2 Tbls vanilla
2 cans eagle brand milk
1 1/2 – 2 qts whole milk
1/2 pint whipping cream
Combine everything except whole milk.  Then add the whole milk to the fill line. Run machine with ice and rock salt.
